IPTV market penetration continues to accelerate

As the global IPTV footprint grows, network operators need delivery solutions that boost their video transport capacities.

As the IPTV market continues to grow, network operators will need to ensure that they have optimal video broadcast system solutions at their disposal to support content delivery in any distribution environment. A recent report by research firm IHS found that IPTV reached an estimated 15 million new households across the world in the first half of 2013. Global IPTV penetration now stands at more than 80 million households, Digital TV Europe reported.

Year-over-year revenue growth is expected to surpass 20 percent this year, with total global IPTV revenues of $24.8 billion. As growth stagnates in more mature markets like the United States, Western Europe and Asia, emerging markets in the Middle East, Eastern Europe, Latin America, Central America and Oceania will be growth drivers, according to Informitv. The Latin America market alone is projected to experience a 246 percent year-over-year increase in net IPTV subscribers in 2013.

The U.S., while only the third largest market in terms of subscribers, is projected to account for nearly half of all global IPTV revenue this year. As IPTV becomes an increasingly global phenomenon, U.S. network operators continue to have a significant opportunity to benefit from delivering content and coverage to additional markets hungry for Internet video transport. Multi-format modular receiver decoders are integral to optimizing the functional capacity and performance reliability of broadcast, cable and satellite systems. Adaptability will continue to be a key driver for market profitability as additional formats and delivery systems increase the diversity of content that must be handled by broadcast systems. Receiver decoders are essential to provisioning incoming live and network feeds for distribution through various outputs.
