IPTV, optical networks markets expected to witness continued growth.

In a rapidly changing viewing environment, new data highlighted the continued rise of IPTV subscribers. A report from Infonetics Research found that IPTV subscribers in many regions around the globe are climbing at steady rates. Globally, IPTV subscriptions grew 6 percent in the time period stretching from the fourth quarter of 2012 through the first quarter of 2013, FierceCable reported.

The study also found that Asia is experiencing the most pronounced boost in IPTV subscriptions, which totaled 22 million for China Telecom alone, making it the world leader of telco IPTV subscribers.

The Infonetics quarterly report tracks digital and analog subscribers for cable pay TV, satellite pay TV and telco IPTV, which include the services offered by more than 140 providers around the world.

Another report from CRU Group found that dark fiber is also on the rise. The report specifically detailed that in 2011, optical network providers laid the most fiber optic cable they had since 2000. FierceTelecom also reported that the optical networks market as a whole is expected to see a compound annual growth rate of 3.1 percent between 2012 and 2018, reaching $17.5 billion.

These trends could also hint at a growing need for receiver decoders, which are necessary to support transport videos with high bitrates that dark fiber networks are designed to support.
