Sencore Prepares for Upcoming FCC Carrier ID Mandate

Why is Carrier ID Needed?

With the increasing amount of data being transmitted over satellite, signal interference has been a growing problem. To mitigate this interference, the industry has backed the Carrier ID (DVB-CID) standard to greatly reduce the time needed to resolve satellite interference occurrences. At a minimum, Carrier ID requires a Global Unique Identifier (GUI) and can contain additional information such as GPS coordinates and contact information to ease the process of fixing Radio Frequency Interference (RFI) events.

Published in May 2013 as the ETSI TS 103 129 standard, industry-wide adoption officially began in January 2015. On June 1st, 2016, the FCC will begin requiring satellite signals to contain Carrier ID information.

How to Prepare for Carrier ID Implementation

FCC mandates are not something to be taken lightly and Sencore understands the importance of updating to the latest technology to stay compliant. That’s why Sencore has introduced the SMD989 next-generation modulator including Carrier ID information along with other great features like DVB-S/S2/S2X roll-off filters, BISS Scrambling, Smart TR101-290 input switching, and dense dual-bay chassis configuration.

To help their customers prepare, Sencore has introduced a trade-in program where customers can now trade in their current modulator devices and receive up to $2,500 off the list price of an SMD 989.

Why Choose SMD 989?

Leveraging the latest modulation technology, the SMD provides a high-value solution with unmatched signal quality. When stacked up against other satellite modulators, the SMD 989 has all of the features you need but at a lower cost of ownership.

Key Features:

  • Super-efficient S2X modulation schemes and roll off factors
  • L-band and IF outputs in one modulator
  • Optional diplexed 10MHz and DC power on L-band
  • Front panel and web GUI for easy configuration
  • ASI and IP inputs
  • Available dual redundant or DC power supply options
