The winner from
the November Sencore News quiz is David Hancock
with Hancock Technologies from Fairpost, NY. Congratulations,
David!
Note from Dave Hancock:
I am a retired engineering manager
from Eastman Kodak and have been responsible for
the development of several products in the digital
color area. This
includes the first color management product available
(Kodak "ColorSense Color Manager").
I decided to pursue my lifelong interest
in television/Home Theater by attending ISF/Sencore
training in 2002 and have been providing calibration
services to the Rochester, Buffalo, Syracuse areas since then with the CP288.
I have been the only independent calibrator
(one who calibrates equipment sold by others) in
the area. Unfortunately, the area does not have a high
demand and it has been difficult to justify additional
equipment purchases. Winning the CP5000 will be a godsend!
The CP5000 arrived as expected last
week. Though
I had some issues with installation (the instructions
were not clear that the software for the CP288 had
to be removed before the CP5000 software is installed)
it ultimately worked fine.
I wanted to compare the response of the CP288
I had been using to the new ColorPro
III. I ultimately
did this by using my old laptop for the CP288 and
my new one for the CP5000.
I was happy to see that they both
compared fairly closely (x & y +/- 0.002) of
each other from 20 to 100 IRE on DV CRT set.
The major difference was that the CP5000
was much more stable at lower IRE's
- and now 10 IRE can be accurately dealt with.
I also measured the phosphor primaries
using the CP5000.
I had done this with the Colorfacts
6000 (eye Beamer) that I had tried a couple of years
ago. I found
the readings much closer to the expected value than
I had with the eye Beamer. Even though the CP5000 is a colorimeter while
the eye Beamer was a spectroradiometer,
it appears that the CP5000 is much better measuring
the primaries.
Again, I want to express my thanks
to Sencore for having this contest and for the prize
that I received.
Sincerely, Dave Hancock
